BAC Library

Rx Biosciences offers custom BAC library construction and related services tailored to our clients’ research needs. We have successfully built several BAC libraries, including those for blueberry, Tunisia, mustard, soybean, poppy, rice, willow, cactus, mouse, human, rat, cobra, Xanthomonas, nematodes, cicada, and microorganisms from various soil and rock sediments (see list).

Moreover, we continue to collaborate on long-term custom BAC library construction and sequencing projects with customers from around the world. Our client base includes the USDA, NIH, universities, pharmaceutical companies, and other leading research organizations.

Service Highlights
Economical Package

In projects where only one or a few positive clones from the library are needed, Rx Biosciences offers the ‘economy package’ to its customers, saving significant cost and time. As part of this custom BAC library construction approach, we perform library construction either by random shearing or restriction enzyme methods, harvesting pools of 100 to 1000 primary clones in steps.

We then screen the pools for the desired positive clone(s). If the desired clone is not found, we prepare and screen additional pools until we obtain the correct one. After identifying the specific pool, we spread it on large plates and grow individual clones as glycerol stocks. We further screen these quickly by forming new pools, creating super pools, or arraying them on a nylon membrane.

Through this custom BAC library construction method, researchers obtain the desired clone at a fraction of the standard project cost.
